Sports Article

I chose sports articles as my genre because I’ve been an athlete my whole life, but I never read articles about sports and I want to know better about this genre and become more familiar with it.

I have been always interested in sport, from skydiving to football, but I just knew the basic things. Now that I’m doing research on not only sports but also articles that are about it, I realize that the world of sports has a lot of things that people don’t know.
This genre is important to the public because they get to know what is happening in the world of sports but mainly is for people who love sports. Also, helps fans to know what is happening in the life of the athletes.

For example, in this New York Times article from Morgan Campbell about UFC fighter, we can see how in the article we get to know the fighter’s opinion “McGregor’s win over Cerrone gives him options more than three years after he became the simultaneous champion of two divisions. “I’m going to have a look at the calendar and see where we’re at,” McGregor said after the fight on Saturday. “I’ll be ready.”

Conor McGregor, left, fought Donald Cerrone. Briefly.

Another example that we can see from another different article of the New York times from Ben Rothenberg is “MELBOURNE, Australia — Five players seeded in the top 10 had been knocked out of the Australian Open across the men’s and women’s draws on Friday, and Roger Federer appeared ready to join their exodus.”

This is clearly how articles about sports are important to people. They can answer many questions that you have, of course, this is mainly for sports fans, but if you choose to read just one article, I assure you that you’re going to find something interesting. Like in Rory Smith’s article ” Ernesto Valverde and the Prison of Barcelona’s Past” he talks about some operations that Barcelona, the soccer club has made. “Since 2001, Barcelona’s merchandising operation had been subcontracted out to Nike, the team’s jersey sponsor. Through a subsidiary company, Nike ran three official Barcelona stores and 15 licensed stores, as well as overseeing some 328 licensed distributors. The branded products they sold included about 7,000 items: apparel and mugs and all manner of sundry tchotchkes.”

Furthermore, we can clearly see that sports articles have three characteristics. The first one is statistics. The second one is that the author usually argues something in those articles. And the last characteristic is that almost all sports articles are short.

To finalize, my conclusion is that sports articles are very useful for everyone, not only you can learn about new things of sports, but also you can find out what is new about your favorites athletes.
